The historic area west of the quay known as The Rocks is where much of early Sydney was built. Saved from wholesale demolition by enlightened and militant union action in the late 1960’s, the area and the 19th century buildings have been restored and is today one of Sydney’s most attractive and charming tourist attractions. Sydney’s oldest surviving dwelling can be found here, in the diminutive Cadman’s Cottage, built in 1815. Horse drawn carriages take you to your destination if you fancy a taste of colonial days, though much of what is to be seen is within easy walking distance.
